Back in Action!

So I never really watched women’s tennis – I always thought it was kind of slow compared to the men. In the last year, there have been a few players who have really put my interest back on their side. Kim Clijsters made an impressive comeback last year – and I think that’s what started it.

Her game is so clean, and so smart. She has the kind of composure/sportsmanship that makes me insanely jealous. Nobody loses that gracefully. Nobody. I want to get coffee with her and talk about life – I think she’d be more down to earth than most of my own friends. She’s a big freaking deal. I got to see her in Palm Springs earlier this year for the BNP Pariba Open, and after winning her match she goes to pull out a jacket, and instead snags a diaper (she swore to us it was clean) “oh, the joys of being a new mom.” she says as she hoisted Jada up in her arms. It’s pretty hard not to like her.

Watching her beat Sharapova last night was sweet for sure. Not just because i’ve had an undying grude against Maria (for reasons i won’t get into here) but because she rallied back after losing the first set and a rain delay. Impressive stuff.  This should set her up pretty nicely for the next tournament, and in a few short weeks it’s back to Flushing Meadows to relcaim her title! Go Kim!
